Long Range Automotive
Based in Melbourne, Australia, Long Range Automotive offers direct-fit extended range fuel tank to serve expedition, long-distance travel and hauling needs. Their products make it possible to buy fuel when the price is right and be prepared for the long haul.
Aa a family owned and family run business, LRA products are built by specialists with three decades of experience, serving customers around the world.
LRA uses the latest 3D modeling software to design and build over 200 different tank models. Precision CAD 3D models and drawings are produced for all tanks.
LRA uses Hypertherm plasma cutting systems in the fabrication of their tanks. HyPerformance’ CNC plasma profile cutting system with ‘True Hole’ technology deliver product accuracy while ensuring productivity. All welds are full penetration corner to corner MIG welded, using a high-quality inert shielding gas and level layer wound MIG wire to ensure good welding penetration and exclusion of porosity in the weld.
Tanks are fully internally baffled and an expansion chamber is incorporated in the design of the tank.
All tanks are pressure tested and checked by two separate quality control procedures. Every kit includes brass threaded hose barb fittings, stainless steel hose clamps and high tensile bolts with Nyloc nuts.
LRA in North America
LRA products have been seen in North America for decades – available through shops, resellers and do-it-yourself owners. Cruiser Brothers has known LRA products for years and in early 2017, began a path that resulted in a new role as exclusive US agent for LRA.
LRA and Cruiser Brothers work together to adapt and improve current products to meet the needs of US-spec vehicles. We also partner to build new products to meet the needs of Toyota, Jeep and Land Rover vehicles – among others.
Cruiser Brothers supports all of products that Long Range Automotive offers, over 300 tank kits developed over the last three decades.
The most popular tanks in North America are listed below and in our product pages. If you need something for a non-US spec vehicle, just click here (goes to Ward Email: email@example.com) to tell us what you need, or call Ward Harris at 209-636-0831.

The following Q & A is offered as a point of beginning in your research, acquisition and use of a long-range fuel tank. Please call or email us with your questions, concerns and suggestions - we are here to serve, and we learn from our customers.
The simple answer is probably, maybe or no, depending upon a range of details – including your vehicle’s age, original emission system, condition and applicable regulations based upon where you live and.
No, if your vehicle is deemed to be an “emission-controlled vehicle.” Our products ARE NOT exempted from California’s anti-tampering and they MAY NOT be sold and installed on consumer vehicles.
What the state says: “Auxiliary fuel tanks are subject to California's anti-tampering laws. Installation of auxiliary fuel tanks on emission-controlled vehicles is prohibited unless the auxiliary fuel tanks have been evaluated and certified by the Air Resources Board.” In California, vehicles made in 1975 and later are subject to emissions testing.
Manufacturers began to offer OBD-II (On-Board Diagnostic II) systems as early as 1994. If your vehicle has an OBD-II system, it is an “emission-controlled vehicle” or ECV.
Your local / state regulatory agency may consider earlier vehicles to be an ECV - we suggest you conduct further research if you have questions.
It depends on your state regulations and inspection process, if any. In our experience, the LRA tanks, properly fitted to a well-maintained vehicle in good condition will not affect tailpipe emissions, generate error codes or lights under normal operating conditions.
If you make a long run up a steep trail on a hot day at high elevation (think Moab, Ouray, etc.) – you can expect a stock vehicle may experience tank contraction, vapor lock, diagnostic trouble codes, bubbling, burping and fuel discharge from the filler cap. An LRA tank in the same circumstances is likely to produce similar results.
In our experience, larger capacity fuel systems do not impact the vapor filters if properly designed and installed.
Overfilling of the fuel tank is a possible cause, along with long periods of vehicle positioning on high angle planes, causing fuel to overwhelm vent and line connections.
Perhaps, if your warranty claim is related to the engine control system, emission system or fuel system. It is also possible that the dealer or manufacturer would use presence of the aftermarket components to deny claims tied to other systems on the vehicle.
Yes, anything is possible as in the warranty question above. Consider, though, that the denial of a claim due to the mere presence of an aftermarket tank would also apply to installation of other aftermarket components such as: larger wheels/tires, lifted suspension, armor, roof racks and other additions that change braking, handling, center of gravity, etc.
Yes, anything is possible. If you are concerned with these potentialities, we suggest you pursue other alternative solutions for your fuel storage needs.
